Nashville, TN: Its no secret that the home of country music serves as a hideout for one of America's most bustling music scenes. People move to Nashville aspiring to change it, only to find themselves chewed up and spit out by the spirit that gave us Johnny Cash, Woody Guthrie, and Bob Dylan. What rises from the dust are songs with ache and pain, hopes and sorrows, victories and defeats. But redemption is found in the community of people whose kinship runs much deeper than the music.

Ten out of Tenn is a compilation that shines a light on a few of the many Nashville artists who haven't waited around for the world to hear about them. With TV being the new radio and beat up vans the new tour bus, this generation of American originals have taken full advantage of opportunities to take their music beyond the city limits of their adopted home town. Years of restlessness and work have allowed competition to give way to a community where late nights on the front porch are king.

Ten out of Tenn volume 1 was released in 2005 and partnered with Myspace and Paste Magazine for an extensive national tour. Volume 2 is partnering with American Songwriter Magazine for a tour set to launch on July 19 at Nashville's historic Cannery Ballroom. The tour will feature a rotating lineup of artists sharing musicians and supporting one another. Tickets will go on sale June 13th.

first of all, thank you to all the people who came out to the shows on this past tour---we played 30 shows in 35 days.....pretty grueling to be honest. but it was awesome to have people pumped to hear music all the way through---very awesome.

I'm pretty pumped to be back in Nashville for a while..... I love traveling and playing shows, but it's really hard to write new material when you're in hotel rooms every night and spending most of the day on the interstate....

Right now I'm actually watching teenage mutant ninja turtles 3.....when they go back in time to feudal japan.....nice surprise to see some good shows on TV for a change. maybe i'll put out a ninja record this summer...

thanks to all the people who were at the shows in Texas with dave barnes--they were a blast. the shows that is. dave is a boring old fart......
ok not true in the least....i'm actually really proud of the video blog I put up today--more than usual. and dave is one of the star actors in it. for some reason, the crazier his faces are, the more you can't stop watching the screen. on the road i sometimes just watch him sleep....from about 8 inches away from his face.....

so onto other things....in between these concerts i'm trying to finish up stuff in the studio.....i'm really eager to get it out there

Thanks to all you guys and gals who came out to the NY showcase at The Housing Works. It was a rainy night in the city, but you guys braved it and made it out....and for that I say thanks.

And thanks for staying all the way to the end--with the 2-set showcase setup, I got to pull out a lot of new songs in the second set--thanks for being all ears.....the second set felt like I was in a living room with good friends......until someone spills something on the carpet and things get awkward and you start looking at your watch because the wife gets mad at the husband.......awwwwkward.

But thanks for being there. I plan on being back up there in full force this fall--hopefully with some new songs in hand (and on cd). See you soon.

Special thanks to the fellas in the front row who were mimicking my clap method...it took all I had not to stop playing piano and let out a full belly-laugh. Too bad I had to give each of you a black eye after the show....my apologies.

And thanks also for the trinkets you bartered for my posters...I have more hair ties than I know what to do with...a few used chapsticks....lots of gum....I think the award for the best trade, though, goes to the Marine that gave me his personal dog tag--now that's serious. I want to hug that man. Wherever you are, I owe you big. (Although, do you realize your SS# is on there? Don't worry--I won't steal your identity. Maybe just one credit card...)

So thanks for coming out--I miss you guys like family already. (not like crazy family, though...you know, i miss you like that one cool cousin that listens to the same music and wears the same clothes...the one you hang out with at family gatherings and laugh at how weird the rest of your family is......that kind.
